Currently, many of my clients are in their 50's-67, they recognise the benefits of health prevention and living freely, a future, full of vitality, with trusting their body to take them where they want to go, do what they love doing most.
Trusting our body, having self-confidence is king, as we get older.
It's an great opportunity to reinvent our approach, review our health, habits in midlife, whilst accepting and adapting.
Truth is - we've not lived this age in this body before, we are always learning, growing and transforming.
And I can tell you, you will see and feel benefits using light weight, or even your body weight workouts and you don't have to go to a gym. You can create your own space at home, way's to keep active.
And there is always something we can do to suit our situation, our body, our health factors. It's very flexible, doable, any age, size or shape and very beneficial for those wanting to keep active at home.
Muscle is a magic thing for our body, especially if managing menopause or weight gain as we age, but it does not have to be full on or heavy to see and feel the benefits.
That's why I teach easy moves for the whole body, for any age.
I love to inspire any movement as daily exercise.
I believe incidental movement counts too. It is possible to keep our muscles and joints safe, strong, functioning well so they are mobile and flexible, to stay active, having energy and managing future health factors.
So with 35 years in the fitness industry, what I've noticed over time and as I've gotten older (55 here), women my age are exercising for totally better and different reasons, than when they were younger.
It's more about self-love, time to focus on themselves, self-confidence, energy and mobility, not about fitting into their skinny jeans or a bikini (maybe it was a thing or not).
BUT it's big yes to feeling great, sexy, comfortable and happy in our own skin.
Here's some other great reasons clients tell me that inspires them to train, to stay strong and healthy;
Stay active and engaged with their family, longevity, healthy and active for the grandkids
Most are still working 3-5 day's a week so need the mental health, stamina and energy
To reinvent themselves in midlife, reclaim their time, self-confidence, mojo find their spark, get back to focusing on themselves again (amen to that)
To maintain their weight as don't want to keep putting on weight or don't fit in their clothes well
Managing stress and overwhelm, for their mental health very important
Want to age well, look and feel youthful
Manage and reduce the effects of disease, aches and pains, heart disease, cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetes, autoimmune diseases, bone density, rehab after injury and menopause symptoms
Prevention of future health issues, like poor balance and falls
But overall, it's for the freedom, to live a full happy life, travel, enjoy life and relationships or do what ever they want with harmony and peace of mind, less stress, worry and to spend less time, unwell or forking out for medical bills.
So there's so many benefits of exercising in a low impact way, strength training using resistance or weight training, whole body, with what we have at home -
I show clients how to move from coffee tables, dining chairs, kitchen bench - with exercise bands (my favourites), lots of way's to use what we have at home.
Managing stress and mindfulness is also a huge reason to move, to support injuries or reducing aches and pains, and improve strength and balance.
Many of my clients are worried about having falls as they get older or have already experienced broken bones from falls, as well as dealing with older parents, seeing them have falls, so fear of aging unwell is a factor in deciding to stay active.
That's why I believe, anything we can do now, today, will make a big difference to the way we age.
To support our lifestyles, healthy and bones, muscles to feel confident, in control of their own body and life.
